Formed in 2006 when Roxanne Claxton (lead singer) and Dorothee Weber (rhythm guitar and drums) found much solace in expressing their views on the world through metaphors and melodies. A year later Salon Society were joined by drummer Luci Jones (drums and guitar) who began to write her own material for the band. By January 2008 Archie Dickson (lead guitar) contributed riffs inspired by the music. Finally the freshest addition to Salon Society in January 2009 has been Roy Collings (bass).
Salon Society’s sound is influenced by the drama of life’s experiences combined by an eclectic mix of musical genres which include artists such as Johnny Cash, The Kelly Family, Alanis Morrisette, Jack Johnson, The Beatles, Elton John, Queen, Amanda Palmer, Kate Bush, Beethoven, Imogen Heap, Bowie, Pink, Pink Martini, Madonna, The Eagles and all the unsigned bands out there (you know who you are) – your music constantly adds colour to the underground caverns of our iPods.
To date the Glasgow based band has played a series of high-profile venues including King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, ABC2 and The Royal Concert Hall amongst others. After their debut single release ‘Undone’ in July 2008 on First Aid Records, the band were selected and supported by the Sunday Herald to play at the Hydro Connect Festival at Inverary Castle.
The aesthetic of Salon Society is influenced by decades gone by whose influence can still be found in the fabric of our culture today.
